I like how we get time in our specialization projects to dive into subjects that interests us and create some cool projects.

Nathalie has always had an interest in art and tech. With a background as a 3D artist she is now studying to become a Technical Artist at The Game Assembly to expand her skillset. And to get a technical perspective to complement her expertise.

Studerande, Technical Artist
My name is Nathalie, I’m 25 years old and from Denmark. I have always had an interest in art and tech. Especially in media where those two meets, such as films and games. I got into 3D after I took an evening course at a school in Copenhagen in basic 3D. I loved the blend of creativity and technical problem solving so after that I started on a 3-year education as a 3D artist in Copenhagen. As part of the education we had internships and I was very fortunate to get an internship as a modeler at a VFX company called Framestore in London. I was at Framestore for a while and afterward I went back to Denmark where I worked on a couple of smaller projects as a 3D generalist and modeler.
När pengarna tog slut så fick de flesta gå från företaget jag jobbade på. Jag tog I’ve known about The Game Assembly for a long time, but I can’t remember where I first heard about the school. I decided to study Technical Art because I like learning and improving my skills. And the education to Technical Artist felt like a good way to expand on my skillset and get a more technical perspective to complement my creative skillset. It also gives me the opportunity to work more with game related projects.
You get to start on making games almost as soon as you start, so you quickly get a lot of experience in group work and what it takes to make games. The days are usually split 50/50 between group work and individual work which I think works very well. Because then you get time to develop skills as an individual and at the same time get production experience.
Jag trivdes verkligen fantastiskt bra på skolan och jag hade trevliga och Yes I am. The Teachers are very engaged and competent on top of being very nice, so there is a good dynamic between students and teachers. The lectures are great and there is always room to explore if you find you have a specific interest. Overall there is a nice atmosphere, everyone’s friendly and people takes the time to go into the different classes and chat.
I like how we get time in our specialization projects to dive into subjects that interests us and create some cool projects. That in combination with the group projects as production experience is always an important knowledge.

It seems like there definitely is a need of Technical Artists in the industry. Every TA have a different skillset and of cause it can depend on that. If you are very specialized it might be harder or in some cases easier to get a job depending on the circumstances.
If you want to do 3D or Technical Art and make games then The Game Assembly is a great place. It’s a nice environment where both teachers and students are engaged, helpful and passionate.
